Bring a taonga, shell, or kōhatu (stone) and learn how to bind and transform it into a necklace for someone special. Whether repairing a treasured piece or creating something new, you’ll learn practical plaiting and binding techniques in a supportive, hands-on environment.

This wānanga is for whānau who would like to explore natural options for caring for their loved ones - an alternative to chemical embalming - and to better understand your rights and choices.

A one day wānanga where you will be introduced to the foundations of rāranga harakeke. Students will learn tikanga for harvesting, practice traditional and contemporary weaving techniques, and create items such as kono, kete, and korowai

Learners will:

• learn tikanga (protocol) around harvesting

• work with Harakeke (flax) and learn basic to advanced contemporary and traditional techniques of weaving

• be able to make and complete a variety of items from kona (basket) or kete (basket) to korowai.
